Veterans Day

Today was Rachel's last day of vacation in the West. We managed to hit 3 national parks in 4 days. Not bad...a little tiring but worth it!!!

She was flying out of Phoenix this AM so when we arrived early we stopped at the State Capitol building and discovered a wonderful War memorial park in front of the building... not sure if they left anything out!!!

The Arizona State Capitol Building

Cactus!!!

Desert Storm Memorial....leave it to AZ to be so colorful!!!

The world War II memorials were throughout this grove of Olive trees. I was impressed with the thought behind the planning of this park and each memorial.

The Vietnam Memorial was very educational. The plaques in the center had a history of the conflict and the history of the area before the war dating back to the 40s.

Close up of the Vietnam Memorial

Korean War memorial

There was even a memorial for the WW II code talkers!! I was impressed!!!

Peace Officers Memorial for those who died in service from the police department to the DEA. You name it, They had it on here from the 1800s, Rangers and all!!

The most surprising was the memorial for the canine service in law enforcement!!!

I found the 911 memorial fascinating the way the design let the sunlight shine through the memorial to read the events of the day on the concrete below.

It was entitled Moving Memories. " Memory is the sun that lights the material of history. The Sun Moves"
