10. Don't trust your GPS and have back up maps!
9. Make sure the car is tuned up
8. Have your ipod charged and ready to go!
7. Have extra batteries for your camera!
6. Extra food in the car..not to mention a camping stove, sleeping bag and water filter? (to filter what water in the desert?)
5. Always be sure to have a half a tank of gas!
4. Make sure you stop at information centers and Visitor centers and ask what the road looks like ahead!!
3. Try not to drive after dark!! (see number 4!)
2. If there is a bathroom....use it!! You can't pee on the side of the road when you can see for miles!!! see number 1!

Discography!!

I listened to a lot of music on my ipod in last week while driving!! I was traveling alone since Tuesday. As I was driving through a canyon in Utah between Bryce and Capitol Reef I decided to try to look for a radio station for the fun of it! Thinking I would get nothing...sure enough my scan just kept running through all the stations and never stopped on one! Wow!! It was the middle of no where!!

So David Wilcox has some great traveling music on his last 2 albums. He took his family around the country in an airstream trailer while touring. He home schooled his son. Here is the result of his year on the road! Vista and Airstream.

Patty Larkin has a great song called traveling alone and that is what I was doing...I am not sure I would say it is a wonderful thing but I enjoyed the trip! And as I was listening I realized that she did the same drive I did..at least I hit almost all the places in her song!!! through the painted desert from Mesa Verde to Grand Canyon but yeah..been there, done that!! Gorgeous!!!

Traveling Alone

by Patty Larkin

traveling alone is a wonderful thing
traveling alone is a wonderful thing
traveling alone is a wonderful thing
traveling alone is a wonderful thing

there's a little light left at the end of the day
a little light left at the end of the day
driving to moab for the first time
leaving the highway

there's a little light at the nd of the day
a little light left at the end of the day
coming up over the hill to the ocean of prairie

there's a little light at the end of the day
a little light left at the end of the day
driving to telluride over the avalanche skyway

there's a little left at the end of the day
a little light left at the end of the day
crossing the painted desert to mesa verde

Did you make up those rules before the trip or after when you didn't do all those things?
