"Been through the desert on a horse with no name"

Ok, so it was just Death Valley. It was a prettier drive than I expected! Land of extremes alright! The predicted high was 103 degrees and I was driving through the valley looking at the salt beds on the floor of the valley and SNOW on the mountains in front of me! So on Saturday I stood about 300 feet below sea level in the Valley. I figured it was time for lunch!! : )

For some reason I didn't run into too much traffic this memorial day weekend? Really? People weren't swarming to see death valley at the beginning of the summer? I just bearly caught the end of their tourist season. The campgrounds are all closed already. It gets up to 120 or 130 in the summer! So 103 was cool! : )

My friend was flying into Vegas for the weekend so I thought I would meet up with her there. It's only a 6 hr drive. She then told me that she was flying in on Sunday so I decided to take a slight detour into Death Valley.

The drive on rt 15 from the coast through the Mojave desert on my way to Death Valley National Park.

Driving through the desert. Some strange sights snow on top of the mountain surrounded by Joshua trees!

Turtle crossing signs!!

Joshua trees in the Mojave Desert. Apparently there are more Joshua trees here than in Joshua tree National Park.

A gorgeous drive through the Mojave desert at sunset Friday night Memorial day weekend.

And the traffic wasn't that bad. In the desert go figure!

Stayed at a really nice Comfort Inn in Barstow, CA on my way out of CA.

Left Barstow on rt 66!!

Saturday AM getting closer to Death Valley

Is it my imagination or is this a strange sign?

Still driving from Barstow, CA to Death Valley. Not there yet! This is just north of the Mojave Desert National Preserve. Same environment!

Definitely seeing the point of these hats! Glad I got one in WY last year!
