Yosemite National Park

Wow! The Grandeur of Yosemite was Amazing!

Half Dome from Glacier Point

My friend Jess came into town last week and we drove out to Yosemite for a camping trip and hiking. We headed to Camp Curry at night and driving through Yosemite Valley at night was Awesome!! the 3/4 moon and the size of the granite walls as we drove in...I can't describe it and couldn't get pictures to prove it!

So we stayed at camp curry and woke up to find we were under Glacier Point and Half Dome. Jess was in Heaven.. She is a climber and this was definitely a climbers Mecca!

We drove up to Glacier Point after breakfast and again I was Amazed... I was running out of Adjectives as usual!!

We also drove down to Mariposa Grove and hiked through the Sequoias there.

The next day we drove up to the Hetch Hetchy Valley where a dam was built to create a resevoir for San Francisco back in the late 1800s. John Muir tried to stop it but it passed congress a year before he died and luckily it was built after he died. I am sure it is blasphomy but it was still gorgeous as a lake!!

Our Tent Cabin? Sure looks like a tent to me...ok so it has a door that locks...big deal! The sides are canvas!

The "Tent" had cots and lots of warm wool blankets...ok maybe needed 2 more the first 35 degree night!!

Any thing that looks or smells like food goes in the bear proof storage box. No visitors on this trip!

The view during our walk to the dining hall for breakfast.

Cathedral Rocks. John Muir felt this was his Cathedral! Can't get much closer to God!

Yellowstone Valley

Half Dome from Glacier Point

View of North Dome and the valley from Glacier point

Yellowstone falls should be right here!! Its the stained part of the rock just to the left of center. Most waterfalls in the valley are dry this time of year. Need to go back some spring for snowmelt!

The Sequoia pine cones are HUGE too!!

Sequoias of the Mariposa Grove in Southern Yosemite

One that fell over a while ago...

In the early 1900s this tree was cut for cars to drive through. The tree is still standing!

But the sap is everywhere!

Driving out of the valley in the AM

El Capitan. A climbers Mecca!!

The Dam at the end of the Hetch Hetchy Valley

The Dam at Hetch Hetchy

Jess is the climber...not me!!

Another dry water fall!! Need to go back in the spring!! Snow melt!!

While hiking on the trail, Jess stops to take a picture of a cairn marking where the trail goes.

My friend Jess has a link to her pictures from the trip. A few of mine are on there as well.
