The drive through the Sierras from Reno.
I arrived in CA on Thursday August 20th after driving over the Sierra Nevadas into Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is on the border and the eastern side is in Nevada while the majority of the shoreline is in CA on the south and west. It was a beautiful drive! The first thing I did in CA was go for a bike ride. I had stopped at an information center on the Nevada side and the gentleman there recommended a bike ride along the only outlet to the river that flowed north from the western side. FLOWED North? I asked him about that and he said that the Truckee river is one of 3 rivers in the US that flow north and this watershed never reaches the ocean. It flows up to Pyramid Lake in NV and that is all!
The lake is known for its blue color but it is actually a reflection of the sky. The lake is so clear that it reflects the clouds on a cloudy day and is grayer. It is the second deepest lake in the US at 1645 feet. The empire state building would be entirely underwater if it was at the bottom of the lake. Reno NV is at a higher elevation than the bottom of the lake! Crater Lake in Oregon is deeper at 1949 ft. The deepest lake in the world is a lake in Siberia at 4911 feet!! Wow!!
